Last week I finished listening to the book on CD
The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale. (Incidentally she lives in Salt Lake City so I wondered if she was related to the Ruth Hales!) What a great completely underdone fairy tale! This version is definitely meant for the older kid to adult crowd, but I found myself dreaming about it like it was a movie running before my mind. Someone should seriously make this book into a movie. The title doesn't do the story justice. And I agree with the author's preface that the Grimm Brothers version leaves so many questions unanswered. I'd never thought about it before that if I didn't like a fairy tale it's totally fun to make up your own embellished version.
Last week Bekah and I started reading The Ordinary Princess by M.M. Kaye, a favorite I got hooked on from several issues of Cricket magazine, given to me by my Uncle Jay. We also started reading the Ramona Series by Beverly Cleary from the beginning again, a series I fell in love with because of my fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Ball. Right now we're on the first book, Henry and Beezus, at least that was the one the author wrote first.
We love reading!

I love the Ordinary Princess. I remember reading it in 3rd grade.
Oh my goodness, Nikki! We're book soulmates! :) The Ordinary Princess is one of my favorite books of all time since I was three feet tall. :) And I also recently read Shannon Hale's The Goose Girl and loved it too. Have you read her Princess Academy? Also good (though not as). I also am very grateful for blogging and how it helps me keep up with the special people I've been fortunate enough to cross paths with. Thanks for finding me. Hope all is well!
